Beyoncé's video for 'Countdown' was "spontaneous"

Adria Petty, the director for Beyoncé's video for 'Countdown', said that the filming process was "evolving" and "spontaneous".

Petty, who is the daughter of rock legend, Tom Petty, told MTV that she and the now pregnant superstar worked through the themes of the video together:

"I brought Beyoncé a number of references and we picked some out together. Most were German modern-dance references, believe it or not. But it really evolved".

The director, who has worked with Regina Spektor and Duffy, said that Audrey Hepburn was one of the biggest influences for this beatnik-inspired video:

"The references were then dispersed to her creative team, and they interpreted them on the set in their own special way. Of course, one of the strongest wardrobe references was Audrey Hepburn in 'Funny Face' when she does the beatnik dance scene. I think a lot grew from there".
