Coldplay's team open up about X Factor performance

Coldplay, who recently performed on the live X Factor final, were concerned that their appearance on the show would fuel "haters" with ammunition to attack them.

The band made a brave move by deciding to rock the X Factor audience at London's Wembley Arena on Sunday, December 11 and frontman Chris Martin revealed that they felt it was the right thing to do because the televised contest is important to the UK music industry

Their official blog, Roadie 42, which is managed by one of Coldplay's team, has been updated with a new post that explains how their management were worried about what kind of reception the performance might have welcomed:

"There has been a lot of discussion over whether this was a good idea - not least within the Coldplay camp itself. I remember first hearing that it was a possibility. "Man, you're handing haters some pretty huge bullets there," was my first thought. The downsides are obvious. It now becomes effortless for the cool kids to lay out their case against the band."

"For some, The X Factor is the devil. It is regularly painted as the source of all evil in the current music industry. Indeed, as an angry young man back in my own student days, I'd have ranted at length against it."
