Disney halts sales of Joy Division-inspired shirt

Disney have halted the sales of a new t-shirt which appeared to take its inspiration from the iconic British band Joy Division.

The item of clothing was made available earlier this week and the design attracted mass media attention because of its resemblance to the 'Love Will Tear Us Apart' stars' 'Unknown Pleasures' album cover.

A spokesperson for Disney has now admitted that the company decided to pull it from the theme parks and online stores because it became a controversial talking point very quickly:

"As soon as we became aware there could be an issue, we pulled it from our shelves and our online store to review the situation further."

Joy Division's Peter Hook also spoke out about the shirt and explained that he took it "as a compliment", adding to the Los Angeles Times:

"If I had a pound for every time someone bootlegged Joy Division, I'd be as rich as Disney. But it's interesting in a kitsch way. It's this cross between something very adult and this well-known image of childhood."
