Simon Cowell proposes TV talent show "super final" sing-off

Music mogul Simon Cowell has suggested the idea of pitching the winners of the X Factor USA, American Idol and The Voice in a sing-off.

Cowell tweeted the idea for the "super final" this morning (February 17) as he announced the return of the American version of the X Factor.

He expressed his "love" for the rivalry between the three US shows, before proposing the idea that the the three winners should take battle.

He said: "Excited to announce @TheXFactorUSA auditions. Yes, the $5M prize is back. Love the rivalry between all the music shows."

Cowell then added: "Maybe the winner of @TheXFactorUSA this yr should compete with winner of The Voice & Idol in a super final. Just a thought. I'd be up for it."

American Idol producer Nigel Lythgoe then ramped up the stakes, suggesting that the Idol winner would already "be a star" by the time any super final happens.

He tweeted: "@simoncowell suggests the IDOL winner should take on the Voice and X-Factor winners. The problem is the Idol winner will be a star by then."
