Chris Martin says Coldplay only won BRIT Award because they're 'still together'

Chris Martin has claimed that Coldplay only won the BRIT Award for Best British Group last night because they’re 'still together.’

The 'Paradise' hit-makers, who opened the show with a rendition of current single, 'Charlie Brown,' in front of an impressive pyrotechnics display, fended off competition from Arctic Monkeys, Kasabian, Elbow and Chase & Status to pick up the seventh BRIT Award of their career.

However, in an interview after the ceremony, the 34-year-old frontman insisted they only received the accolade because other certain bands are no longer around:

"Most other bands have split up, we only win because we are still together.

"Blur have gone, Pulp have gone, Oasis have gone. Radiohead aren’t interested. They would win it every year if they wanted to. Take That are on holiday. So we’ll take it if they’re not around.”

Martin, who joined Noel Gallagher on stage for his performance of ‘AKA...What A Life,’ also poked fun at other artists when asked about the band’s future:

“We’d like to land a big modelling campaign. As a group, we’d like to do our own perfume.”

“We’ve got a few restaurant ideas, and we’re thinking of opening a theme park. A JLS theme park. We’re thinking of doing that in 2016, so you heard it here first.”
