Flight of the Conchords' Bret McKenzie wins Best Song Oscar

Flight of the Conchords star Bret McKenzie has won this year's Best Original Song Oscar.

The musician turned actor picked up the award last night (26 February) for the track 'Man or Muppet', which he wrote for the recently released Muppets film.

Speaking after winning the award, McKenzie revealed his joy at being able to work on a Muppets film. He said:

"I grew up in New Zealand watching The Muppets on TV and never dreamed I'd get to work with them. I was genuinely starstruck when I finally met Kermit the Frog, but once you get to know him he's just a normal frog - and, like many stars here, he's shorter in real life."

He beat off competition from Rio's 'Real in Rio' to land the gong, which has been won in previous years by the likes of Eminem, Randy Newman and Phil Collins.
