One Direction caused a street to be closed in Canada as boyband fever hit the country at the weekend.

The Brits took to Canada's Much Music TV programme in Toronto on Sunday (February 27) - but, as Digital Spy reports, authorities had to close off the street outside their studio due to the amount of fans waiting to see their idols.

The boys took a walk outside to meet the enthusiastic fans before heading back inside for an interview.

One Direction are causing just as much fuss south of Canada, with their single 'What Makes You Beautiful' having the best chart performance for a debut single from a UK act since 1998.

Back home meanwhile the boyband's popularity also continues to grow - highlighted by the fact that they added 20 more dates to their 2013 UK and Ireland tour.
