Maroon 5's Adam Levine was a 'nerdy and awkward' kid

Maroon 5's heartthrob frontman Adam Levine has revealed that he hasn't always been a pin up and insisted that he was, in fact, a "nerdy" kid.

Speaking to Access Hollywood, the 'Moves Like Jagger' star explained that growing up he idolised Pearl Jam's singer Eddie Vedder and just immersed himself in music until he discovered that girls liked guys in bands:

"When I was 14-15, I think it was a little less cool to be in a band. I was very uncool, had disgusting long hair and shorts down to [to my knees], cut off shorts - I desperately wanted to be Eddie Vedder from Pearl Jam really badly, and I was just a nerdy, awkward kid and I was obsessed with music."

"Eventually, once I realized that singing was something that girls like, which I didn't know about really, [it became], just kind of 'Wow… Oh my God, girls like this! I'm shocked!' So I kept doing it - maybe for that reason."
