The Wanted poke fun at One Direction

The Wanted have poked fun at teen boyband One Direction, suggesting that they are more about "selling posters" than the music.

Both boybands are proving a hit in the US at the moment, with the Wanted boys riding high in the American charts.

Speaking to the Daily Record, The Wanted's Tom Parker seemingly took a jibe at the One Direction lads, claiming that The Wanted's ethos is more about the music, not looks - although he recognised that they will dominate the teen market. He said:

"Our main aim is not to sell posters. One Direction will build up a really big teen market. We want to push our music, not our faces. They'll kill that teen market, but I don't think we want to push that. I don't really see my face on the front of a teen magazine. I've got a beard and I'll probably have a beer in my hand. It's not really a good look for a teen magazine."

He added: "You can have hype, but hype doesn't mean sales."
