Marcus Collins opens up about recording his debut album

Former X Factor finalist Marcus Collins has unveiled an exclusive behind-the-scenes video that was shot during the recording process of his first album and in it he explains how the concept for the offering came about.

Referring to how he works on his songwriting, the talented young singer explained that he begins with a melody and builds on that, filling in the gaps with lyrics and a cohesive story:

"It can be a long task, but if you find yourself in a situation where it's not working it's best to scrap and move on. I like to work with creating a melody first, like get the tune and the shade of the song. And from there I hum or sing or do whatever comes naturally over the top of it until it forms a story."

His debut single, a cover of 'Seven Nation Army' by the White Stripes, was chosen because "it's iconic. That beat, you're not going to forget it soon and I wanted to make an impact with that first single".

When deciding on the themes he wanted to include on the album, Collins admitted he was keen to write about love but didn't want it to be too sweet:

"It touches on the ins and outs of being in love. The good and the bad about it, the different feelings people go through when changes happen in their life."
