Taylor Swift's date for ACM Awards forced to cancel through illness

Cancer-stricken teenager Kevin McGuire has been forced to cancel his date with Taylor Swift at the American Country Music Awards after being hospitalised on Friday.

The 18-year-old, who was asked to tonight’s ceremony by the country star after his sister set up a Facebook page inviting her to his prom, has become too sick to attend the show following a week of intense chemotherapy.

His sister, Victoria, confirmed the news on Facebook, saying: 'I am so sorry to announce this devastating news, but Kevin was admitted to the hospital last night, and is unable to attend the Academy of Country Music Awards with Taylor Swift."

The 'Love Story' star, who is nominated in the Entertainer, Female Vocalist and Video of the Year categories, took to Twitter yesterday to express her upset at the news: “Just talked to Kevin McGuire. He's not well enough to join me at the ACMs. Please keep him in your thoughts. I'll make it up to you, Kevin!”

Victoria later revealed that her brother, who was in remission from a battle with leukaemia for several years before it recently returned, still managed to find some humour in the situation, adding: "He said to me. 'Well how many people can say they turned down Taylor Swift?" Watch the video for Taylor Swift's single, 'Safe & Sound,' below:
