Nicki Minaj credits Madonna as major influence on career

Nicki Minaj has cited Madonna as the major influence on her career.

The 29-year-old, who alongside M.I.A., performed with the Queen of Pop at this year’s Superbowl and on the single, ‘Give Me All Your Luvin’,’ told US TV show 'Today' that she is even more impressed with the superstar after meeting her in person.

“I had the pleasure of working with her, obviously, and I feel like she’s really changed and reinvented not only herself but pop culture.

“So what inspired me about Madonna is that she’s able to balance all of this with her family and her personal life. I was like, ‘how do you do this, you know, with your children’ and she’s a great mom. you know, she’s just everything.”

The ‘Super Bass’ star, who is set to knock Madonna’s ‘MDNA’ off the UK number one spot with her second studio effort, ‘Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded,’ later today, also revealed how Marilyn Monroe inspired her to write the album track of the same name.

Asked about the sex siren, she said: “It was just like a longing for something, like a longing for approval. I feel like a lot of women in power, or successful women, as successful as they are, they have that desire to still be loved, to still be always, you know, great, to still be approved. And, it’s like no matter how many times you tell them they’re great, they don’t believe it.”
