Lostprophets credit free spirit for band's longevity

Lostprophets have claimed that the band's free spirit and no-nonsense attitude is responsible for their continuing success.

The Welsh rockers, who charted at No.9 today with their fifth studio album, Weapons,’ told Digital Spy they believe the reason they've managed to stick around so long is because they’ve always followed their own path.

Guitarist Mike Lewis said: "The simplest reason is that we've never given a f**k. We've always done what we wanted to do. I think a lot of bands do what they think they should do. We've never worried about being uncool... I think any band or any artist who does it for the right reason will do what they feel like."

The ‘Last Train Home’ six-piece, who alongside Enter Shikari, are one of only two metal bands confirmed to play at Radio 1’s Hackney Weekend in June, also argued that their ability to reinvent their sound has helped them to remain relevant:

"I like to think that whenever a new Lostprophets record comes out you don't know what it's going to sound like... not to say we go crazy different directions. We're fans of music. We're picking up new influences every single day and that seeps in."
