Adele overtakes Michael Jackson's 'Thriller' in top selling albums list

Adele has usurped Michael Jackson's seminal 'Thriller' in the list of the UK's top selling albums of all time.

The Official Charts Company this morning (May 3) confirmed that her album '21' is now the fifth top selling record to be released in Britain.

It has now sold a staggering 4,274,300 copies since its release in 2011, meaning that it has overtaken 'Thriller' by some 500 units.

She still has some way to go however to impact on the list's top spots, with Queen's 'Greatest Hits' and The Beatles' 'Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band' the top two selling albums.

Official Charts Company Managing Director Martin Talbot commented:

"To add to her many landmark records, Adele's achievement in overtaking Thriller in the all-time sales list is truly remarkable. Thriller has long been recognised as one of the most iconic albums of all time - there is now no doubt that 21 can be spoken of in the same breath."
