Kanye West leads BET Awards nominations with 7 nods

The nominations for this year's BET Awards have been released and 'Flashing Lights' hitmaker Kanye West is leading the pack with an impressive 7 nods.

West received two Video of the Year nominations (for his and Jay-Z's 'Otis' and 'N---as in Paris'), one for Video Director of the Year (for the dizzying 'N---as in Paris' clip), Best Collaboration (for 'Otis' with Jay-Z and 'Marvin Gaye & Chardonnay' with Roscoe Dash and Big Sean), and one for Best Group (again for his work with Jay-Z on Watch the Throne). 

Superstar Beyoncé is up for 5 awards, including Best Female R&B Artist, Video of the Year (for 'Countdown' and 'Love on Top'), Video Director of the Year, the Coca-Cola Viewers' Choice Award (for 'Love on Top') and Best Collaboration (for 'Party', featuring J. Cole).

Meanwhile Labrinth, Estelle, Emeli Sandé, Sway and Wretch 32 will battle it out for the Best International Act: UK prize.

Nicki Minaj has been nominated for Best Female Hip-Hop Artist and Bajan beauty Rihanna will compete for the Best Female R&B Artist trophy against the likes of Beyoncé and Mary J. Blige.

The 2012 BET Awards will take place in Los Angeles at the Shrine Auditorium later this summer on July 1.
