Engelbert Humperdinck has described taking part in the Eurovision Song Contest as a ‘wonderful experience’ despite finishing second from bottom in last night’s show.

The legendary crooner, who opened the show with the song, ‘Love Will Set You Free,’ had to settle for 25th position after scoring just 12 points, only one place above rock-bottom Norway.

But the 76-year-old, Britain’s oldest ever entrant, claimed after the contest that he performed to the best of his abilities:

“I’ve had many highs in my career and Eurovision has been a wonderful experience. I did the best for my country, the rest was out of my hands.

“I hope everyone listening to the song... we shared the song with every generation. I sang it from my heart."

Sweden’s Loreen topped the vote with dance track ‘Euphoria’ scoring a massive 372 points, finishing way ahead of runners-up, Russia’s Buranovskiye Babushki, and entries from Serbia and host nation Azerbaijan, while Ireland’s Jedward finished in 19th place with ‘Waterline.’
