Fun admit shock at success of 'We Are Young'

Fun have admitted that they have been taken aback by the success of their single, 'We Are Young.'

Frontman Nate Ruess, who wrote the track which reached number one in both the UK and US, told the Daily Record that he was initially sceptical about the song’s hit potential:

“I remember sending it to the guys in the band and the people at the label and everybody told me the song sounded like a hit. But I didn’t understand how this song could be a hit. It didn’t sound like anything the radio stations had been playing.

“I’ve always been apprehensive when people say something is a hit song, especially having done this for 10 years. I had given up on the idea that a hit song was on the cards.”

The New Yorker then went onto reveal how he’s extremely proud of what the collaboration with Janelle Monae has achieved:

“It’s not like we set out to write a hit song or followed a formula to have a hit song.

“To look at the charts and see other alternative musicians creep up the charts and be a part of that is very cool for us. It has sold millions of copies and I say that matter of factly.”
