Superstar Adam Lambert stopped by Chris Tarrant's Radio 2 programme this morning and opened up about the launch of his phenomenal career, performing with Queen and his feelings on football.

Speaking about his childhood, the 'Never Close Our Eyes' sensation explained that having supportive parents was key to developing into the artist he is today and he was especially lucky that they allowed him to pursue his love of the arts:

"I grew up in southern California, I was at home and it was very cool - my parents were awesome. They put me in a theatre group for kids when I was about 10 so I was doing musicals my whole teenage years. I realised it was what I was best at and I wanted to make a living out of it."

He also joked about past jobs he's taken on, such as singing on a cruise ship and working as the understudy in many stage productions, and revealed that his experience on American Idol changed his life despite being initially concerned about how it would affect him:

"I was cynical about it before it started working out for me. I didn't think it was going to happen at all, but I thought 'you know what, I'm 27 and it's my last year to be eligible to audition, I might as well go for it'."

The chart-topper is set to rock London in July as he steps into the shoes of the late Freddie Mercury for a series of concerts with Queen, and told Tarrant that his relationship with the existing members developed organically and feels "very natural":

"It's an honour, a complete honour and when they asked me I kind of fell out of my chair. They (Queen) came and performed on the American Idol finale. We did 'We Are The Champions' - myself and the other finalists, we sang it with them. It just felt very natural, there was definitely a connection. I felt a great energy with both Brian and Roger."

Referring to the start of his American Idol journey, Lambert added enthusiastically: "I also auditioned with 'Bohemian Rhapsody'!"

When asked if he shares the UK's love of football, he laughed and said: "I'm not really.. I like the shorts!"
