Hollywood actor Tom Cruise and his wife of five years Katie Holmes are to divorce, it has been confirmed.

The shocking and sad news was confirmed by the couple's attorney, Jonathan Wolfe, who said in an official statement that Holmes' priorities are now with their daughter Suri:

"This is a personal and private matter for Katie and her family. Katie's primary concern remains, as it always has been, her daughter's best interest."

49-year-old Cruise, who recently starred in the 'Rock Of Ages' film adaptation, and 33-year-old Holmes married at an Italian castle in 2006 following a romance that took the world's media by storm. They have one daughter together, 6-year-old Suri.
