British music highlights the opening ceremony of the 2012 Olympic Games

The opening ceremony for the London 2012 Olympic Games was held last night (July 27) and saw some of the best British music highlight the action.

Created by iconic filmmaker Danny Boyle, the fantastic event was a visual treat that was emphasised by audio from the most important modern artists of the UK.

Hitmaker Dizzee Rascal took the stage early on to perform part of his well-known song 'Bonkers' and other parts of the evening's choreography were set to backing tracks that included snippets from Rizzle Kicks' 'When I Was A Youngster', 'Push The Button' by the Sugababes, and 'Pass Out' by Tinie Tempah.

The opening ceremony also featured clips of tracks by The Beatles, Rolling Stones, and the late Amy Winehouse. Multi-instrumentalist Mike Oldfield also treated audience members to a live version of 'Tubular Bells'.

Scottish songstress Emeli Sandé gave a haunting rendition of 'Abide With Me' and tweeted about the opportunity after she finished singing: "I will never forget tonight, thank you so much to Danny Boyle & all team for this incredible experience."
