Adele, Ed Sheeran and Lady Gaga help UK pass 100m digital album milestone
Digital sales have soared in recent years and now account for 34% of the albums market in the UK.
The 50 million mark was passed by digital albums two years ago, with records for digital music sales in the UK beginning in 2006.
The figures have been boosted by Adele's chart behemoth '21' and Ed Sheeran's '+' - the two best selling digital albums ever in the UK.
Other top selling digital albums in the UK include Lady Gaga's 'The Fame', which is the third on the list, whilst Kings of Leon's 'Only By The Night' is the UK's fourth top selling digital album ever.
Commenting on the popularity of digital music, BPI Chief Executive Geoff Taylor said: "Sales of digital music are at an all-time high as British consumers embrace new services and enjoy the convenience and variety of music they offer. There's something for all music fans at a price to suit everyone's pocket and with interactive features which transform music services into more than just online shops."
