One Direction beating Justin Bieber in MTV VMA fan vote

One Direction are currently trumping Justin Bieber in a public vote for the Most Share-Worthy Video award at this year's MTV VMAs.

The awards are taking place this year on September 6 in Los Angeles as a host of big name stars come together to celebrate the art of the music video.

One Direction's 'What Makes You Beautiful' video and Justin Bieber's 'Boyfriend' clip are going head to head in the Most Share-Worthy Video category, which is decided by the amount of tweets the songs receive.

Fans for the acts have been battling it out as they attempt to see their idols win the award, with One Direction currently reigning supreme.

At the time of writing, 'What Makes You Beautiful' leads with 14,243,649 tweets whilst 'Boyfriend' is close by with 14,179,778.

In third place currently is Beyoncé's 'Countdown' whilst Carly Rae Jepsen and Gotye complete the top  five.
