30 Seconds To Mars hitmaker and actor Jared Leto has posted a series of photographs of himself that show his extreme weight loss in preparation for a trying film role.

He landed an upcoming role in Jean-Marc Vallee's 'The Dallas Buyer's Club', in which he will portray an HIV positive cross-dresser and to complete his transformation Leto has already undergone a full body wax, but has now debuted a shockingly frail frame.

Speaking to Vulture, the star explained that in order to get into the mindset of his character, he felt it was important to physically represent them by going through the same thing:

"Your body goes through weird stages. Sometimes it's hard to hold on to water. But for me, it's not about the most weight I can lose, it's more to represent the character. Historically, people have done it for pursuit of self, to achieve a meditative state, so I'm hoping for that. It's not necessarily a bad thing."
