Carly Rae Jepsen's 'Call Me Maybe' lands top song gong

Canadian songstress Carly Rae Jepsen has thanked her fellow 'Call Me Maybe' writers after the global hit was named 'MTV's Best Song of 2012.'

The catchy pop tune became one of the best-selling digital singles of all time with worldwide sales of over 10 million copies, after it was released in Europe and the US earlier this year.

After reaching No. 1 in a string of countries 'Call Me Maybe' was named top song by MTV, and Jepsen has gushed about the honour.

She told MTV: "First of all, wow, thank you so much! I have to thank the two other writers of 'Call Me Maybe', Josh Ramsay and Tavish Crowe. When we worked on the song together, we were not expecting this year to turn out to be the crazy adventure that it is. Thank you to the fans, my team, my family and MTV - thanks to you!"

'Call Me Maybe' was recently nominated for two Grammy Awards, for Song of the Year and Best Pop Solo Performance at the 55th Annual ceremony.

fun. came in second place with popular feel-good song 'We Are Young', while Gotye hit No. 3 in the poll with 'Somebody That I Used To Know'.

Rival British boybands One Direction and The Wanted placed fourth and fifth with their respective hits 'What Makes You Beautiful' and 'Glad You Came'.
