Amy Winehouse's former fiance cleared on two counts of rape

Reg Traviss, the former fiance of the late Amy Winehouse, has been cleared on two counts of rape today (December 13).

The director stood in front of a jury at London's Southwark Crown Court earlier this afternoon who acquitted him of attacking a 27-year-old woman in the early hours of New Year's Eve back in 2011 at his apartment in London.

While giving evidence, 35-year-old Traviss explained that he had consensual sex with the woman and was 'completely and utterly flabbergasted' to hear of the original allegations. He added:

"She had a big smile on her face. She was being very inviting about me coming and getting into bed with her. She was someone that I knew and trusted. If she didn't then I would just go to sleep. But pretty much straight away we started kissing and touching each other."

When asked why the woman had accused him of rape, he admitted that he didn't know: "It could have been purely monetary. She might have perceived it as a one-night stand and felt ashamed and tried to justify it by saying I have taken advantage of her. None of us know why she did it."
