Demi Lovato has reflected on a New Year's Eve she once spent in rehab.

The singer checked into rehab in 2010 as she battled a number of personal problems, including an eating disorder.

She left the clinic in 2011 but had to take in the new year inside rehab. Speaking on Twitter about her time in the facility, Lovato said:

"Two years ago, I watched the ball drop on TV in rehab and cried my eyes out. Tonight I'm on the beach with my closest, most loyal friends... sipping coffee and sharing how beautiful life is and how far we've come. Recovery is a beautiful thing friends. Life is good, God is great!"

The X Factor USA judge added: "Everyone please be careful and smart tonight. [New Year's] is about celebrating the past year and the year to come. Set goals and dream big #2013... By the way - just reminding teens out there that you don't have to drink to have fun. Be the difference."
