James Arthur clings on to No.1 spot in midweek chart update

2012's X Factor winner James Arthur remains at No.1 after today's (January 2) midweek chart update, but he faces tough competition.

The positions will be confirmed this coming Sunday, January 6 and at the moment the figures show that while Arthur's 'Impossible' is currently at the top spot, Will.i.Am and Britney Spears' collaboration on 'Scream & Shout' is only 3,000 copies behind.

If 'Scream & Shout' overtakes Arthur's single, the Official Charts Company confirmed that it will be Spears' highest-charting single release since her 2004 hit 'Every Time'.

Meanwhile, Carly Rae Jepsen's summer smash hit 'Call Me Maybe' has risen an impressive 14 places to sit comfortably at 19 after 41 weeks on the chart, Bruno Mars' 'Locked Out Of Heaven' is up 2 to No.4, and Swedish House Mafia have climbed to No.8 with 'Don't You Worry Child'.
