Cyndi Lauper on career longevity: 'I don't follow trends and stay true to myself'

'True Colours' superstar Cyndi Lauper has credited her independent attitude for her career's longevity in a new interview.

When asked by Parade magazine why she thinks she is still successful, Lauper explained that not following trends helps and she enjoys doing her own thing without taking direction:

"I don't think it's a secret: I never stopped [recording]. When people told me you can't do this or that, I would just do it. I didn't think there was another choice for me."

The songstress, who recently performed with Adam Lambert at the Home For The Holidays concert (shown below), added that not being conventional has always been on her side and admitted that her look is also something she puts together herself:

"I always liked that salmon-pink hair colour; I still use it. And I loved the retro-glam look, but I wanted to make it my own, so I wore high heels and pedal pushers, which nobody was really wearing at the time. I'm obsessed with fashion."
