5ive: "One Direction wouldn't be as big in America without Twitter"

5ive believe One Direction wouldn't be enjoying as much global success if it wasn't for social networking websites.

The 'Kiss You' stars are a worldwide phenomenon and they enjoy a huge amount of followers on Twitter.

Speaking to heat magazine, Scott Robinson of newly reunited 5ive stated his belief that platforms like Twitter makes it easier than it used to be for acts to promote themselves on a global level. The 90s star said:

"We didn't have social media back in the day, we didn't have Twitter, Facebook, web chats, nothing - we just turned up to places. Where as now you can be in a room straight away with just one tweet."

Bandmate Sean Conlon then asked: "Would One Direction be as big in America without Twitter that's the question?"

With Robinson replying to the negative, Conlon added:

"I'm not sure either. We had to be there didn't we? If we weren't there we weren't 'there'."
