Jamie Foxx to be honoured with the MTV Generation Award

Actor and singer Jamie Foxx will be recognised with a special award later this week.

The superstar is set to be given the Generation Award at this year's MTV Movie Awards, which will take place on Sunday (April 14) at the Sony Pictures Studios lot in California, for his amazing contributions to the entertainment industry over the years.

Stephen Friedman, MTV's President, said in an official statement: "As a comedian, Academy award-winning actor and Grammy award-winning artist, Jamie Foxx is a triple threat superstar unlike any we've seen in a long time. Jamie has captivated audiences for nearly two decades with a dizzying array of memorable performances, and we couldn't be more excited to celebrate him at this year's Movie Awards."

Other people to have won the Generation Award in the past include actress Sandra Bullock, Johnny Depp, Jim Carrey and Tom Cruise.

Meanwhile, Foxx has also been nominated for Best Male Performance for his role in Quentin Tarantino's 'Django Unchained' and will go up against Ben Affleck ('Argo'), Bradley Cooper ('Silver Linings Playbook') and Channing Tatum ('Magic Mike').
