American Idol denies Mariah Carey axe reports

A spokesperson for American Idol has denied the show wanted to replace Mariah Carey with former judge Jennifer Lopez halfway through the series.

Speculation emerged recently that the program's bosses were wanting to juggle the judging panel to combat falling ratings.

One report suggested that they were going to draft in former employee Jennifer Lopez to replace Carey during the current series.

It is said the plan only fell through when Carey threatened legal action, with further rumours suggesting that Lopez is signed up to appear on Idol's May finale.

However, a spokesperson for the show has thrown out the Carey rumour, stating:

"This is just another ridiculous Idol rumour, likely started by talks of Jennifer performing on the finale."
