Jimmy Eat World on new album 'Damage': 'We wanted to write about heartbreak and break-ups'

Frontman Jim Adkins, of 'The Middle' rockers Jimmy Eat World has revealed that the band's forthcoming eighth studio album will deal with themes of love lost and heartbreak.

Speaking exclusively to Billboard.com, Adkins explained that 'Damage' is "an adult break-up record" and when starting the creative process he recognised that he was more attracted to darker subject matter that dealt with emotions typically tied to romance:

"In writing material for 'Damage,' I wanted an initial jumping-off, so I started writing, searching about love songs. And the kind of love songs that I’m attracted to, that interest me or I find interesting to explore, are the windows of adversity, heartbreak, or break-up… They always speak to me more."

The only final versions of songs that have been shared from the upcoming release are 'I Will Steal You Back' and the title track, 'Damage', and Adkins added: "Nothing is less effective for me than when you stack happy on top of happy. I just can’t have empathy for that type of song."

'Damage' is set for a June 11 release date through RCA Records and the band will play a sold-out headlining set at London's KoKo on June 16.
