Jimi Hendrix’s ‘All Along The Watchtower’ named greatest rock cover version

Jimi Hendrix’s cover of Bob Dylan’s ‘All Along The Watchtower’ has been named the best rock cover version of all time by Planet Rock listeners.

Digital radio station Planet Rock asked their listeners to vote for their favourite rock song covers throughout April.

‘All Along The Watchtower’ came out on top, followed by Metallica’s cover of the traditional Irish song, ‘Whiskey In The Jar’ and Joe Cocker’s take on The Beatles’ ‘With A Little Help From My Friends’.

Guns ‘N’ Roses make a couple of appearances in the countdown with their versions of Paul McCartney’s James Bond theme ‘Live and Let Die’ and Bob Dylan’s ‘Knockin’ On Heaven’s Door’.

The top ten entries in the poll are:

Jimi Hendrix Experience ‘All Along The Watchtower’
Metallica ‘Whiskey In The Jar’
Joe Cocker ‘With A Little Help From My Friends’
Guns 'N' Roses ‘Live and Let Die’
Van Halen ‘You Really Got Me’
Peter Frampton ‘While My Guitar Gently Weeps’
Guns ‘N’ Roses ‘Knockin' On Heaven's Door’
Johnny Cash ‘Hurt’
Metallica ‘Am I Evil?’
Thin Lizzy ‘Rosalie’

Planet Rock will reveal and play their top 30 cover songs in full on May 6 at 2pm.
