Glastonbury Festival will be broadcast live on the BBC next month and footage from six stages will be streamed for music fans at home to enjoy.

Bands' sets from the Pyramid, Other, John Peel, Jazz World, Park and BBC Introducing stages will all be included in the extensive coverage, which will total 250 hours and span 120 live performances.

Chris Evans from Radio 2 will lead the coverage and other well known BBC DJ's, such as Lauren Laverne and Nick Grimshaw, are set to present sections of the festival. Glastonbury mastermind Michael Eavis explained:

"The BBC have stuck with us through thick and thin since 1997 and they've earned their stripes the hard way. It's been quite a journey since 97 and to have a complete record of what we've been up to over the years is music history gold dust."

The broadcast is due to begin on Friday, June 28 and will come to a close on Sunday, June 30 when Mumford & Sons headline the event's final day.

Bob Shennan, the BBC's controller of popular music, added: "Glastonbury is one of the greatest pop music events in the world and we want to make this year's coverage the next best thing for everyone who can't make it in person to Worthy Farm. We aim to broadcast more of the festival than ever before, and reinvent music coverage as only the BBC can for music fans at home and on the move."
