Kim Deal quits the Pixies

Pixies founding member Kim Deal has left the band.

The iconic indie group confirmed the news today (June 14) in a statement.

The group haven't played live since 2011 and bassist Deal is currently touring with her other band, The Breeders.

A statement released by the Pixies reads:

"We are sad to say that Kim Deal has decided to leave the Pixies. We are very proud to have worked with her on and off over the last 25 years."

They continued: "Despite her decision to move on, we will always consider her a member of the Pixies, and her place will always be here for her. We wish her all the best."

Pixies released classic albums such as 'Surfer Rosa' and 'Doolittle', which were unleashed in 1988 and 1989 respectively.

Deal formed The Breeders in 1990 and took up vocals and guitar in the band.
