Cher confirmed to headline New York City's gay pride event

Pop icon Cher has been announced as the headliner of this year's gay pride event in New York City, called Dance on the Pier.

The 'Believe' superstar, who will livestream her performance on 'The Voice' later tonight (June 18), will take the stage at the celebration on June 30 at a venue located on Hudson River Park’s Pier 26.

Managing director of NYC Pride, Chris Frederick, explained in a statement that he is "thrilled" to have her on board: "Her performance will be one of the most memorable in the history of this world-class party. Now in its 27th year, the Dance on the Pier continues a proud tradition of partnering with all-star talent to create a high-quality event that raises funds to support local LGBT non-profits and New York City's annual Pride festivities."

Cher also tweeted about the exciting news earlier and wrote: "I'm honored to be able to perform at @nycpride at the #pierdance on 6/30."
