Musical inspired by Tupac to hit Broadway

A brand new musical inspired by the music of Tupac Shakur has been created and it will hit Broadway in Manhattan either late this year or early 2014.

Billboard.com reports that a workshop of 'Holler If Ya Hear Me" is currently taking place in New York City under the direction of Kenny Leon (pictured below), who directed stage productions 'Fences' and 'Driving Miss Daisy'. The musical is an original story, but is set to the tracks made famous by the rapper.

Producers teased a few details about the narrative and explained that it focuses on childhood friends in a Midwestern industrial city "as they struggle to reconcile the challenges and realities of their daily lives with their hopes, dreams and ambitions," and it is set in the present day.

Tupac Shakur's mother, Afeni Shakur, is also one of the show's producers.
