Daft Punk and Ed Sheeran songs enter UK 1m sales club

Tracks by artists such as Daft Punk and Ed Sheeran are among the latest singles to have sold over one million units in the UK.

Daft Punk's massive 2013 hit 'Get Lucky' has just surpassed the milestone, whilst Ed Sheeran's 'The A Team' has also notched up one million sales.

The French duo's track is the first song of the year to sell one million units, making it the 136th song to bypass the benchmark overall.

Speaking about the news, Daft Punk collaborator Nile Rodgers said: "The fact that 'Get Lucky' has sold a million copies in the UK is one thing, but to do it in 69 days?! I’m awestruck. When I think how it happened, too, with people who I like a lot, that we just decided to go into the studio and do something...And then it turns out like this? It’s absolutely remarkable, because no-one was prepared for this!

“I’ve had big records and Number 1s; I have had records that were Number 1 in the United States but nowhere else...I've had records which have done well [in the UK], but not in the States. But to have this ubiquitous record, that is a hit everywhere...It's amazing to me! I’m out on the road and I can hear it wherever I go. I’m flabbergasted!"

Other tracks now confirmed to have sold over one million in the UK include Kings of Leon's 'Use Somebody' and 'Whole Again' by Atomic Kitten.

Sir Elton John and Kiki Dee's 'Don't Go Breaking My Heart', which was unleashed in 1976, has also finally passed the milestone.
