John Newman reveals brain tumour nightmare: 'I started going blind'

Singer John Newman has opened up about a health scare he had at the beginning of his music career and confessed that he was diagnosed with a non-cancerous brain tumour.

Speaking to London's Evening Standard newspaper, the 'Feel The Love' vocalist explained that he started having problems with his sight and an eye doctor prompted the check-up that found the tumour:

"I started going blind. But being Northern (from the north of England), I just thought, 'I'm fine, I'll just need some glasses'. I went to the opticians, and they sent me to the eye hospital. They sent me to a neurosurgeon and they told me I had a non-cancerous tumour and they had to take it out. I was starting to shake, I was so scared."

Newman, who landed the midweek No.1 position yesterday (July 3) with his new solo single 'Love Me Again', added that he was so preoccupied with his health that he didn't have time to notice the success of his collaboration with Rudimental:

"My girlfriend at the time put the radio on and (radio DJ) Zane Lowe played 'Feel The Love', which I had totally forgotten about because I had so much on. I burst out laughing and said, 'This is ridiculous'. It was perfect timing."
