Family, friends and celebrities have paid their respects to Bernie Nolan after she died on Thursday (July 4).

The singer, who was part of The Nolans, passed away aged 52 after a battle with cancer.

She suffered from the disease for three years and died peacefully surrounded by her family.

Sister Coleen Nolan took to Twitter to give her thoughts on the sad news, saying: "Words fail me at this time, we are heartbroken, but each and every one of your kind comments about our beautiful sister bring great comfort x."

Jennifer Ellison meanwhile said: "So sad to hear Bernie Nolan has passed away! Such an amazing lady, had the honour of working with her twice will cherish the memory's x."

TV's Lorraine Kelly added: "Bernie Nolan was a very special woman. Brave, funny and hugely talented. She will be sorely missed. Thoughts with her family and friends.."

As previously reported, Nolan's husband Steve Doneathy revealed in March that thieves had ransacked their home whilst they were away at a hospice.

He was in the process of preparing for Bernie's final days, which were due to be spent at home.
