Country singer Randy Travis remains critical after suffering stroke

Randy Travis suffered a stroke on Wednesday (July 10).

The country singer was already in hospital and in a critical condition with what was described as a "viral heart infection".

His publicist has now confirmed that the music star also suffered a stroke as a result of a "complication of his congestive heart failure".

Travis had surgery yesterday to relieve pressure on his brain following the stroke. Publicist Kirt Webster added:

"We will have updates as they become available. His family and friends here with him at the hospital request your prayers and support."

The country man has won six Grammy awards over the years and presided over hits such as 'Forever and Ever, Amen' and 'Diggin' Up Bones'.
