Pattie Mallette has opened up about the humble upbringing she gave her superstar son Justin Bieber.

In an interview with Parade, the young mother explained that they came from nothing and she 'struggled' with several jobs to support her family and also to allow the 'Boyfriend' hitmaker to follow his dreams:

"He had his whole childhood where we were just together, and he didn't start his other crazy life until he was a teenager, so we really bonded through just being together."

"I was on government assistance, working two jobs just to try to put food on the table, and really struggling through to make it. I just did whatever I could do to be the best mum I could be."

Mallette also confessed that he listens to her dating advice, saying "I think that he values my opinion." When asked if Bieber ever takes what she says to heart, she added: "I don't know if I'd go that far! But we talk."
