Psychologist questions the release of One Direction make-up

A psychologist believes a new make-up range released by One Direction is sending out the wrong signals.

As previously reported, the boyband have teamed up with MUA Cosmetics to create a series of items such as lipstick and cheek tint.

However, some reckon it is a step too far considering the young age of much of the band's audience.

Educational psychologist Teresa Bliss told Newsround: "A considerable amount of One Direction fans are children. Encouraging children to use make-up at a young age is not helpful."

She continued: "Sadly I think One Direction just see this as a way to make more money. When they're on stage they won't notice if you're wearing their make-up."

The range attracted some criticism from One Direction fans on Twitter when its release was announced, which they believe contradicted the message behind the band's hit song 'What Makes You Beautiful'.

Its lyrics read: "Don't need make-up/To cover up/Being the way that you are is enough."
