Camp Bestival 'explosion' injures two people

British music festival Camp Bestival has suffered a setback after an explosion within the event's grounds injured two music fans.

The outdoor music extravaganza, which takes place at Dorset's Lulworth Castle and will see performances from the likes of Mark Owen and Labrinth, was marred after a gas leak from a cooking stove cylinder destroyed a couple of tents and saw one of the people injured being airlifted to hospital with "life-changing" injuries.

Fireman Steve Underhill explained: "As soon as the explosion occurred it alerted other campers. They came forward with extinguishers, with buckets and bottles of water and quickly put the fire out in the tent, but then applied cooling water to the casualties. Their actions were invaluable."

A spokesperson for Camp Bestival told the added: "Following this incident further safety messages and briefings have been put into place to reinforce fire safety practices. Everyone at Camp Bestival wishes both persons a speedy recovery."

The event began yesterday on August 1 and will finish on Sunday, August 4. Other performers include the Levellers, The Proclaimers, Ash and Gabrielle Aplin.
