Run-DMC star says Jay Z and Lil Wayne only appeal to "stupid America"

Darryl 'DMC' McDaniels has slammed the state of modern hip-hop and confessed that it only appeals to a dumbed down generation.

The Run-DMC hitmaker told London's Metro that he really doesn't like the songs from the genre that are impacting the charts at the moment because there's no substance and it's made for 'brainwashed' music fans:

"If you want to see real hip-hop you gotta go to concerts and festivals because hip-hop on radio sucks! 98 per cent of hip-hop music that's out now I say is just bad demos. Lil Wayne, Jay Z ain't hot, it's just they're programmed so many times people are brainwashed." McDaniels added: "A rapper will use this excuse - 'Man they don't go after Arnold Schwarzenegger and Bruce Willis when they make their violent movies' and I go, 'If you're going to use that excuse get off the mic, don't produce'. I'll personally kick your ass out of hip-hop 'cos if you're using that excuse go be an actor."

British duo Rizzle Kicks also recently expressed the same sentiment and told the Daily Star: "There's a big thing in America, a big hip-hop vibe that I feel is quite ego orientated and I don't find that inspiring. There are hip-hop artists who are able to say things that are phenomenal. There are other greats, but maybe there's a lack of intelligence."
