MTV deny forcing Daft Punk to cancel Colbert Report slot

MTV have claimed that Daft Punk cancelled a scheduled appearance on US TV through their own choosing.

As previously reported, the French duo were due to appear on the Colbert Report recently but the show's host claimed that they pulled out at the last minute at MTV's request.

Stephen Colbert added that this was because Daft Punk have a surprise slot lined up at the MTV VMAs on August 25.

The presenter has since claimed that the shy electronic duo initially weren't keen on speaking or performing on his show.

However, VMAs executive producer Jesse Ignjatovic has told the Hollywood Reporter that Daft Punk's cancellation was all their own doing. He said:

"We don't put restrictions on anyone. I just think that we're talking to them about a moment and then things sort of change. I would not describe that as MTV putting restrictions on people - it was up to that artist and their management what they wanted to do."
