t.A.T.u: 'Russia's anti-gay laws are shocking as a lot of big government workers are gay'

Russian pop duo Lena Katina and Yulia Volkova, who make up t.A.T.u, have opened up about the recent anti-gay laws passed by their country and confessed that if they had released their risqué music video for 'All The Things She Said' today, it wouldn't have been successful.

Singer Katina explained: "In Russia the situation with the LGBT [community] is still really tough. [But] I think we changed this a little bit."

Referring to the new Russian laws, which include same sex parents being banned from adopting children and the restriction of teaching minors about homosexuality, she added: "A lot of people from the [Russian] government with the big positions are gay."

Despite the severe situation in the country where the LGBT community is concerned, Katina added that she received many letters of thanks from fans expressing their relief about feeling more content to express themselves as a result of their video for 'All The Things She Said':

"We received so many thank-you letters. [When] you are a teenager when everything is over the top, and then you understand you are different and society doesn’t support you, it’s really tough, a lot of people commit suicide. I was surprised by those letters."
