Gary Barlow set for Blackpool Illuminations appearance

Take That hitmaker Gary Barlow has stepped in as the new performer at Blackpool's impending 'light switching on' ceremony.

Irish rockers The Script (pictured below) were originally confirmed for the event, but had to pull out due to "family matters". Writing on his official Twitter page last night (August 28), Barlow offered his services to the ceremony in return for a charity donation:

"I hear Blackpool are looking for someone to switch the lights on this year? If they'd write a cheque to Children In Need I'd do it? Should know by midday if we can hit Blackpool tomorrow night! Rounding up my live band, technicians, production."

In the past hour, Barlow returned to the social networking site and added excitedly: "Right. We're all signed-up to play 2moro, Blackpool here we come!"

A spokesperson for the lighting event has revealed that tickets for The Script's appearance are still valid despite the change of plans and that fans can still purchase passes to see Barlow: "Tickets on sale now at Tourist Information Centre. Open until 10pm. Will be open again tomorrow. More ticket locations to follow soon."
