Backstreet Boys' Nick Carter: 'My family blamed me for my sister's death'

Singer Nick Carter, of Backstreet Boys fame, has revealed that he didn't attend his sister Leslie's funeral because his family had started to blame him for her death back in January 2012.

Leslie Carter reportedly died from a prescription drugs overdose and in a new personal interview with Dr. Phil, Nick explained that it was a toxic situation that he needed to remove himself from:

"The reason I did not go (to the funeral)... I started to get blamed by the rest of the family for her death. It has been toxic. The communication is something I'm still trying to work on by going to therapy."

He added that not attending her funeral was heartbreaking, but it was the only option he had at the time:

"Leslie and I had a very hard relationship our whole life. I wanted nothing but the best for my sister. When it happened, I lay on my shower floor for hours, torn, because I wanted to go to her funeral so badly. It was really tough for me. There's definitely a part of me that did blame myself."
