Pussy Riot member ends hunger strike after 9 days

Nadezhda Tolokonnikova, of jailed band Pussy Riot, has officially ended her hunger strike after 9 days according to the Russian Federal Penitentiary Service.

On September 23, she declared the start of the strike and explained that she wanted to do it until "the administration starts obeying the law and stops treating incarcerated women like cattle" because female inmates were being treated horribly by the guards.

The Associated Press reports that the Russian Federeal Penitentiary Service confirmed to state news agency ITAR-Tass that Tolokonnikova is in "stable health" despite having been taken to hospital during the hunger strike.

Speaking about the treatment of the prisoners, she recently confessed that they are often forced to do 17-hour sewing shifts: "Your hands are pierced with needles and covered in scratches, your blood is all over the work table, but still you keep sewing."
